Fluff & Bark recommends keeping regular dog grooming appointments every
​4 – 12 weeks throughout the year for long haired breeds with daily brushing at home. Regular appointments will ensure your dog is comfortable and their coat more manageable.

              What does my dog need?

Short coats & double coats – Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Jack Russell, Labrador
Dogs with short coats need brushing with a rubber mitt every day to get loose coat out. Getting out as much loose hair as possible means your dog won’t smell so ‘doggy’. Brush in both directions! A bath and dry every 8 - 12 weeks is ideal to help with this and will get out a lot of loose coat. These breeds don’t need trimming or clipping. Clipping a double coat such as that of a Pomeranian can result in a thicker, harder to manage, more ‘woolly’ coat which can take years to return to its previous condition. Clipping these coats can affect the dogs ability to stay warm, cool down and increases the risk of sun burn.

Long coats – Shih Tzu, Poodle
These breeds need brushing daily with a slicker or pin brush to prevent knots and matts. Knots can be combed out gently but matts are large tight knots that pull against the skin and hurt if brushed out. Dogs with extremely matted coats need to be clipped short to reduce pain and stress and get them comfortable again as quickly as possible. These breeds need trims and clipping every 4 – 12 weeks to prevent this.

Puppies
If you own a puppy that will need professional grooming as an adult it is best to start them with puppy grooms soon after they have had their 2nd vaccination. A puppy groom every 4 - 6 weeks will help teach your puppy all about the grooming process and help them relax. Once puppy is around 6 months or their coat is ready for clipping it is recommended that they are groomed every 4 - 12 weeks.

PLEASE NOTE: The minimum flat fee for extremely matted dogs is £50. This is a non negotiable fee for dogs who are extremely matted regardless of quotations made over the phone before seeing the dog. Dogs who require this service will be clipped VERY SHORT in order to remove matts efficiently to reduce stress on the dog. This service is a last resort and should not be used as an alternative to regular 4 – 12 week appointments. If you think your dog is matted please do not hesitate to call.
